皇家波特拉什海滨沙丘高尔夫球场的特色是狭窄穿过经典的山地和中空海滨沙丘地的歪斜状球道。作为值得纪念的高尔夫历史事件，1951年皇家波特拉什高尔夫俱乐部成为唯一一家举办英国公开赛的海滨沙丘球场。在这里打上一轮会有许多精彩值得回味，但最戏剧化肯定要数205码长、堪称为“灾难角”的第14洞，标准杆为3杆。高处的发球区，高处的果岭，困难重重左边，右边则是深坑洞，伴随着强烈的海风 -- 镜头定格在挥杆上，球落在了果岭的左前方并让它滚进洞 – 太棒了！
