Templemore —County North Tipperary
Templemore (An Teampall Mór) lies on the plain beneath the Western slopes of the Devil's Bit Mountain. In the 70-acre town park (part of the former Carden demesne) are the remains of Templemore Abbey and Black Castle. Also in the park are a large lake and swimming pool. There is good fishing for brown trout on the upper reaches of the River Suir near the town, and the lake in the town park holds pike, roach, perch and tench. The North Tipperary Foxhounds hunt the district. Ireland's Gardai (police force) are trained here in what was the old British (later Irish) army barracks now completely refurbished as a modern Garda training college.
