Kilcoole —County Wicklow
Kilcoole, otherwise known as 'Glenroe', is perhaps the best-known village in the country. This village was the setting for the longest running soap on Irish television. Central characters in the drama were Dinny & Miley Byrne who were local farmers. Their fictional home is now a tourist attraction - Glenroe Open Farm. This is a great attraction for all the family. The beautiful coastline at Kilcoole is a paradise for bird watchers. The beach is also an excellent location for shore angling.
There are two golf courses in the area, the famous Druid's Glen Golf Club and Kilcoole Golf Club. The Druids Glen Golf Club has hosted the Irish Open for 4 years on the trot and the Seve Trophy in 2002. In April 2002 the Marriott group of Hotels opened a new 5* hotel in the area, which is located between Kilcoole and Newtownmountkennedy.
