Carrickmacross —County Monaghan
Carrickmacross is a beautiful market town, it developed around the Earl of Essex Castle in 1630, and the convent of the St Louis Nuns is now in its place. The nuns were responsible for the revival of lace making; Carrickmacross Lace Co-operative has been responsible for keeping the tradition alive to this day. You can buy the lace in The Gallery Centre where you also may receive a demonstration on the lace making techniques. Carrickmacross also won the European Entente Florale Award Silver Medal Award. The population of Carrickmacross is 3700.
