Midlands Connemara Pony Breeders' 10th Anniversary Show

Mullingar

28 July 2013

The Midlands Connemara Pony Breeders Show features 24 in-hand showing classes for registered Connemara Ponies including the All Ireland Broodmare Championship and 9 performance competitions and qualifiers. While the Connemara Pony is synonymous with Galway and in particular the Connemara area, it must be acknowledged that a very significant contribution has also been made by many dedicated people in other parts of Ireland. In this regard, none more so than the heart of Ireland, better known as 'the midlands'. Some very respected stud farms such as Abbeyleix, Garryhinch, Irishtown, Monaghanstown, Loughmore, Gneevebrack, Tullaghansleek, Brocklodge and Kilpatrick became established in this particular area. These farms in turn have been credited for the breeding of some very famous Connemara ponies such as Abbeyleix Owen, Abbeyleix Fionn, Irishtown Diana, Garyhinch Millrace, Monaghsnstown Fred, Kilpatrick Fionn and Irishtown Pippin to mention but some. Because of the involvement of the midlands area in the Connemara Pony, the Midlands Connemara Pony Breeders '( M.C.P.B.) confined to the five midlands counties of Westmeath, Offaly, Laois, Kildare and Longford was formed in June, 2002. The aims of the group are realistic and focused and they are committed to supporting the mother society in their continued development and enhancement of the pony maintaining the tradition and standards set by individuals and founders of the C.P.B.S. stud book.
