Mick Conneely & David Munnelly at The Steeple Sessions

Dublin City

25 June 2013

Fiddle and Bouzouki player Mick Conneely joins virtuoso box player Dave Munnelly to celebrate their recent duet album 'Tis What It Is'. 'Dave and Mick are master musicians no doubt about it, they have the credentials: the track record, the bands, albums and collaborations, but here you get more than just great musicianship, you get a dialogue, a conversation happening now, not parroted lines from some slickly rehearsed ensemble, that is the real excitement here. Cleary they have practice long and hard, there are gaps and stops and changes of rhythm, which the boys hit spot on, but you'd be forgiven if you thought they'd just walked into the pub and played straight off the cuff.' – Seán Laffey, Irish Music Magazine A member of the newly formed DeDanann, Mick Conneely is one of the most respected fiddle players of his generation. He has played & toured with many artists, most notably De Danann, Mary Bergin, Frankie Gavin, Mairtin O'Connor, Noel Hill & Tony Linnane, Tony MacMahon & Micho Russel, Matt Molloy, Kevin Crawford, Lúnasa, David Munnelly, Carl Hession, Niall Ó Callanáin, Jackie Daly, Svend Kjeldsen, and Michael McGoldrick to name only a few. Accordion player David is known for his colourful style which inhales bold bass fingerings, complex arrangements and modern compositions; and exhales hints of the Roaring 20's and the energy of a box of dynamite coupled with a masterful knack for letting a tune take its own time for a completely unmistakeable and brilliant sound.
