Rare Plant Fair

Castlepollard

13 July 2013

This will be the second visit by the Irish Specialist Nursery Association to one of Ireland's most splendid historic castles and gardens and may be the last chance this summer to stock up on rare and exciting plants. The Irish Specialist Nursery Association represents the smaller more specialised nurseries in Ireland who offer the adventurous gardener a huge variety of plants and expert advice on how to grow and look after them. Most of their stock is propagated by themselves and includes rare cultivars not normally found in garden centres. This is the last plant fair they are holding this summer. The stalls will be set up in and around the great courtyard of the castle, where you will also find the tearoom. There will be plenty of fascinating plants to look for here, including the giant Himalayan lily (cardiocrinum giganteum) which grows up to 12 foot tall. And for children, there are ducks, swans, llamas and a special adventure trail to explore. Castle courtyard tea room available with home made meals and snacks during all garden open hours, with sunny outside seating as well as cosy indoor area.
