The Great Limerick Run offers a certified marathon, relay team marathon, half marathon, and 6 mile run, giving people regardless of age, mobility or fitness level an incentive to get active and participate. Recognised as a relatively flat course the race routes chosen will bring runners past Georgian Limerick heritage, 12th century castles, cathedrals, majestic river Shannon, University of Limerick campus, sporting stadia, before finishing on O'Connell Street in the heart of the City. Musical bands will entertain at various sections of the course while thousands of spectators line the route offering encouragement and gifts from bananas to jelly beans as you head towards the finish line. With ease of access by air, rail or road to Limerick it is now the fastest growing running event in Ireland with over 10,000 who took part in the 2013 event. Visitors to Limerick will experience a host of cultural activities as the City celebrates its annual Riverfest festival over the course of the weekend. The marathon begins at 9am, half-marathon at 11.45am and 6 mile event at 1.30pm. See website for further details.
