Stepping into Madden’s is like stepping into the Gaeltacht. Small and busy, the pub hums with the rhythms of Celtic life, its walls full of posters in Irish heralding traditional music events. Its wooden chairs, benches and tables are covered with pints of stout and the happy debris of the great night’s entertainment in the traditional manner. Bodhrans and mandolins line the walls, and rarely does an evening go by when someone does not produce a guitar for a session filled with ancient melodies. Once in Madden’s the modern industrial city outside suddenly seems very far away.There's a great session downstairs on Tuesday nights with some of the finest musicians in the city. Friday and Saturday night sessions upstairs attract a good audience. All musicians are welcome but should be of a certain standard.
