This loop is named after Canon Sheehan, a respected cleric and prolific writer in the 1800s, who helped provide education for the local people and who negotiated with landlords on behalf of tenant farmers. Much of the walk crisscrosses a river, through a densely wooded valley, over footbridges with rock pools and then up forest roads, past a ‘Mass Rock’ (mass is still celebrated there once a year).
