Shercock —County Cavan
Shercock lies alongside the banks of Lough Sillane, a lake which is both beautiful but dangerous. Like many Cavan villages Shercock dates back to the 17th century. The surrounding area was once heavily engaged in flax growing. This was then turned into linen through various processes carried out in the countryside.
Shercock lies in the middle of Cavan's Drumlin Belt. The landscape is dominated by small but steep hills with lakes and bogs in between. These were made of material left behind by retreating glaciers.
