The Armagh Observatory, which boasts one of the oldest telescopes in the world, the 1795 Troughton Equatorial Telescope is also one of the oldest observatories in the world, and Armagh astronomers are still at the cutting edge of inter-stellar research. Believe it or not, some of the oldest weather records in the world were kept by Armagh monks dating as far back as the 9th century.
