Art Trail

Cork City

13 November 2009 - 22 November 2009

Art Trail endeavours to provide an opportunity for visual artists & art groups to make & present site responsive work in Cork City outside of the traditional gallery space, bringing their work directly to new & unexpected audiences, & to highlight the importance of having a vibrant artistic community in the city. Art Trail is taking to the streets, bringing artists & their work directly to the public, & giving a platform to the unique, the unusual, & the unexpected. Rediscover your locality, rediscover the people & the places you see every day. Using spaces as diverse as an old warehouse, closed shops, an ancient graveyard, a closed school, streets, hoardings, houses & more, this trail of art will find you. Highlights include exhibitions, installations,& performances in spaces across the city centre, including painting, sculpture, drawing, performance & sound art by emerging & established artists. Dérives, a series of weekday lunchtime walks, will investigate the city from a range of artistic, historical & psycho-geographical perspectives, re-examining the urban environment through subjective experiences, narrative explorations & conceptual approaches. Throughout the city & county artists will open the doors of their studios to reveal what goes into the making of their work. There will be public talks by participating artists & invited guests, further exploring the theme of the festival, & specialist workshops.
