Rosscarbery —County Cork

This attractive village has a long and interesting history. It traces its foundation to a 6th century Benedictine Monastery founded by St. Fachtna. The famous Irish patriot O'Donovan Rossa (1831 - 1915) had strong connections with the area. Nearby at Froe and Benduff are the remains of what was once West Cork's largest slate quarries which employed many people in the 19th century.
Rosscarbery is home to a number of events during the year. Included in these are Rosscarbery Oyster Festival and Rosscarbery Arts & Literature Festival.
