Oughterard —County Galway

Oughterard is the chief angling centre in Lough Corrib and its hotels, guesthouses, and pubs cater for the many anglers who come for the Mayfly dapping season in early summer, and for the 'Daddy' and 'Harry' in early autumn. The finest brown trout are caught there, as well as salmon.
Other tourist attractions include viewing The Hill of Doon, playing a round of golf in Oughterard's scenic 18-hole golf course or enjoying a cruise on Lough Corrib to Cong or to Inchagoill Island, or perhaps finding out how candles are made by visiting the workshop and showroom of the Connemara Candle Maker.
The 16th century Aughnanure Castle, down the road through the golf course, will bring you into the past where the cruel O'Flaherty's were threatening the region. Finally, 3km west of the town on the N59 road, you'll discover Glengowla Mines, Ireland's only lead and silver mine.
Oughterard is called 'the gateway to Connemara', and will offer an enjoyable and unforgettable stay to any visitor.
For further information, contact the Oughterard Tourist Office which is open all year round.
