Glasson is a picturesque and welcoming village, famous for its hospitality with its award winning pubs, restaurants and top class accommodation. Located approx. 10kms north of Athlone on the shores of Lough Ree it is often referred to as 'The Village of the Roses' and it is considered by scholars to be the 'Sweet Auburn' of Goldsmith's 'Deserted Village'. Originally built as an estate (Waterstown) village, Glasson still retains its old world charm, beauty and tranquillity. There are many historic buildings and monuments in the area including the old schoolhouse built in 1844, Lakeshore and forest walks, angling, cruising and golf are some of the activities that can be enjoyed locally.
