Baltinglass —County Wicklow

This Heritage town, in the southwest of County Wicklow is situated on the banks of the River Slaney. The town offers the tourist both beautiful scenery and historic sites to visit. Bronze age burial chambers (5,000 years old) have been excavated on the Pinnacle, a 1,258 ft high hill. The Abbey, founded by the King of Leinster Dermot McMurrough in 1148, was built for the Cistercian Order of monks, however only ruins remain today. To help interpret the history of the town, why not visit the Baltinglass Heritage & Visitor Centre. The town is also a good location for game angling, golf and horse riding.
