Ballaghaderreen —County Roscommon

Ballaghaderreen is a busy Cathedral town situated on the Mayo/Roscommon border near the end of Lung River, which empties into Lough Gara. Beyond rises the chain of sandstone hills, which stretches northeastward back to the shores of Lough Key.
As you approach Ballaghaderreen from the east, you pass the home of the First President of Ireland, Dr Douglas Hyde, after whom a very successful annual Conference on Irish History is held, together with a School of Traditional Irish Music, Song and Dance; and, from the front of the Hyde Interpretative Centre, one gets tgheir first view of the scenery and the landscape that has inspired generations of great Irish people.
About 6 km from the town is a delightfully maintained 9-hole golf course with an abundance of fast maturing trees. There is also a Museum which opens during the summer months, and is located on College Road.
