Der Club ist seit 1925 an der jetzigen Stelle mit Blick auf Lough Belfast beheimatet, nachdem er mehrfach hatte umziehen müssen. 1885 wurde der Golfclub durch einen Besuch des Prinzen von Wales beehrt, der sein erster Patron wurde. Somit ist dies einer der wenigen Golfplätze, die das Wort „Royal“ im Namen tragen dürfen. Prinz Andrew ist der jetzige Patron des Golfclubs. Eine Runde Golf hier ist nicht besonders lang, doch HC Colt hat die Anlage so konstruiert, dass man sehr viel Konzentration und Präzision braucht.
