Die kleine Stadt Dun Laoghaire südlich von Dublin wurde im Jahr 480 von König Laoire gegründet. 1803 wurde die Festung Laoire abgerissen, um dem Wehrturm Martello Tower Platz zu machen, der vor einer möglichen napoleonischen Invasion schützen sollte. Heute ist dort das James-Joyce-Museum untergebracht.
