Ratoath —County Meath

Ratoath was one of the four borough towns founded by the Anglo-Normans within County Meath. The name is derived form Rath To 'Fort of To', which suggests there was a settlement here prior to the Normans. The village was retained by Hugh de Lacy as a seigniorial manor. Close by is Fairyhouse Racecourse, one of the most famous racecourses in Ireland, where every Easter the Irish Grand National is run.
